Where is the next update?

Hey, it’s been a while

Sorry for the year long radio silence.  I didn’t mean for this next update to take so long, but unfortunately that’s situation.  In fact, the next update isn’t even done yet—I’ve been trying to work on it, but it’s been difficult for me to do so as I struggle to manage my ADHD and depression, neither of which I’m able to get an actual diagnosis for, let alone actual treatment.  I’ve also been trying to get art commissions so that I can raise money to move out of my parents house.  On top of all of this, I’ve been trying to find feasible Google Docs alternatives that are free and won’t use my work to “train” its shitty AI.  This doesn’t mean I’m stopping, though.

I had originally intended for chapter one to be split into two parts: a conversation with Oak and Cypress over breakfast and the campus tour.  The problem is that the prologue and chapter 1.1 combined are around forty to fifty pages long.  Chapter 1.2, as of writing this, is around sixty pages long, and I’m not even halfway done with it.  BUT THAT’S JUST THE SCRIPT!  I still haven’t completed any of the assets for the background or the sprites for the at least six new characters introduced in chapter one.  At least I got some of the music done :3

I do have a possible solution.  In the nature of a campus tour, chapter 1.2 is divided into sections by location.  One section is the front office, another section is the sex dungeon, etc.  So, I’m thinking that I could release one or two sections every month or two.  This way, I’ll be able to release semi-regular updates while also giving myself time to work on the assets.  For the first update like this, I’ll probably just use rough sketches in place of the character sprites until I can get to work on them.  This way, you’ll be able to actually see the characters.

This route will also allow me to work on other stuff for the VN as well, like the 3D model I want to use for the backgrounds instead of the shittily doctored stock photos from Pexels and Unsplash.  I also want to implement a chapter select in the event a future update fucks up y’all’s saves.  There are some dialogue and text changes I want to make to the prologue and chapter 1.1 as well, too.  Finally, I want to implement sound effects and change all the music to ogg files. Anyways, if all goes well and nothing untoward happens, I plan for the first of these updates to be released in October.  After chapter one is finished, I don’t know if I’ll keep up these small updates, but we’ll see :3 In the meantime, have this auditory moodboard I made for the VN! :3 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4e0k2jRbXs3aPCH0hEU845?si=4c287a9574034462

I really have no idea why would any Ai model want to train on your writing in particular. And why is it a problem anyway? If my writing was on a level to be worthy for ai to train on I would be flattered more then anything

AI models don't "train" on any one thing specifically, but they scrape information from across the internet and uses that.  That sounds harmless by itself, but data that is taken--whether it be for image or text generation--is often without consent of the creators who made that data to begin with.  What Google wants to do with its AI is scrape any and all information from its users Drives for its AI training.

If you aren't using Google Docs for its cloud features, I can recommend Manuskript and/or Kate. Manuskript is awesome for writing stories, I highly recommend it. However, it isn't very good for writing code. If you were doing your RenPy code in Google Docs, then Kate (K Advanced Text Editor) might be the correct option for you.

Both options run locally, so no chance of anyone stealing your work for training their AI or any other reason.

I do use GDocs for its cloud features; its the easiest program for me to use on my Windows computers in my office, my MacBook at home, my iPad, and my Android phone.  If I pretend my phone doesn't exist, then hosting all the files in my Mega drive looks to be the most viable solution.  Once I'm done writing, I copy everything into the RenPy text editor on my working computer and then work on the code that way.  I write my script in such a way that I can easily convert it to proper RenPy code

Thanks for your suggestions, though!

Oh wow, that's a lot of plans. I'm glad you're working so hard, it's comforting to see someone so hard working. And congratulations on the progress of the visual novel so far, I really enjoyed reading it. And one important thing, I wish you good luck with everything you are going through, certainly not getting a concrete diagnosis about your problems and living in an unhealthy home are serious things and must be handled with care, so I'm going to make a selfish request: your life is yours to live, don't let angry readers make you change your story, don't let bad reviews make you think badly about the quality of your work, and don't let yourself suffer for something you're not to blame for. Your life is yours to live, if you just want to become an ordinary salaryman and live an ordinary life, do that, If you want to be, I don't know, the owner of a chain of underwater casinos, do that, but do whatever you want to do for yourself. A life is more time than necessary but less than ideal, so make it your life. Be your protagonist. Face adversity as you see fit, just don't let it get in the way of your life.

Sigh, I think I got the message across but sorry if it's a bit confusing. Well, take care, good luck.

Thank you!  This means a lot to me
